Excursions
The Kigoma region is also well renowned for its nearby chimpanzee reserves, the Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains National Parks. Gombe Stream is a compact but important wilderness rich in primate species and made famous by Jane Goodall's scientific study of chimpanzees. Mahale is a larger mountainous region of rainforest offering visitors the opportunity to track and get close to some of Africa’s last remaining chimpanzees; an unforgettable exhilarating experience.
10 km south of Kigoma is Ujiji; the oldest town in western Tanzania and also a ‘slave trade’ town settled by Arabs. Here visitors are able to see the Dr. Livingstone Memorial whilst walking one of the former slave routes. |
